Every family in the North deserves peace of mind on the road, but to make change happen at Queen’s Park, we need as many Northerners as possible to add their names.
Highways 11 and 17 are lifelines for Northern communities — connecting families, workers, and goods across the region. But too often, they become the scene of crashes that should never happen.
That’s why Northern NDP MPPs Guy Bourgouin (Mushkegowuk–James Bay), Lise Vaugeois (Thunder Bay–Superior North), and John Vanthof (Timiskaming–Cochrane) have teamed up to push for Bill 49: The Northern Highways 11 & 17 Safety Act, 2025.
Their plan will:
✅ Ensure all commercial truck drivers are properly tested and licensed by certified Ministry examiners.
✅ Fully staff inspection and weigh stations to keep unsafe or overweight vehicles off the road.
✅ Restore Ministry oversight of winter highway maintenance to guarantee safer travel conditions.
This is a common-sense, non-partisan issue. But Doug Ford and his politicians have said no every time we’ve tried. We protect our pack — so we keep pushing, and we won’t stop until our highways are safe.
Add your name to show your support for Bill 49 and demand that the Ford government take real action to make Northern highways safer for everyone.
