BARRIE — New Democrats in Barrie-Innisfil have nominated local educator and community advocate Pekka Reinio as their Ontario NDP candidate for the 2022 provincial election.

Quotes

NDP Deputy Leader John Vanthof
“In selecting Pekka Reinio, Barrie-Innisfil families have someone who will champion public education, go to bat for local workers and businesses, and fight for better quality of care for seniors as they age. I’m pleased that Pekka is joining our team of New Democrats again as we work to help people recover from the pandemic, and make life more affordable. After years of Liberal and Conservative governments, seniors' care has been driven to shambles, hallway medicine grew worse and hydro bills for families and local businesses went through the roof. That ends in 2022 with an NDP government.”

Pekka Reinio, NDP candidate for Barrie-Innisfil
“During the pandemic, we saw local businesses close up shop, while students and parents struggled with remote learning. We witnessed a terrible tragedy at Roberta Place that robbed families of their loved ones. These preventable hardships have strengthened my resolve to fight for better protections for seniors, local entrepreneurs, critical investments in education, housing, and in protecting Lake Simcoe. As we recover from the pandemic, Barrie-Innisfil will need a government on its side. With Andrea Horwath’s New Democrats, that’s finally what our community will get.”
