QUEEN’S PARK – In response to today’s speech from the Throne, Leader of the Official Opposition NDP Marit Stiles is calling on Ford’s Conservative government to meet this moment with unity, clear priorities, and a plan to deliver relief and results for the workers who build this province:
“As families face rising costs and the threat of reckless U.S. tariffs from Donald Trump, people are looking to their government for reassurance – for relief, stability, and unity,” said Stiles.
“Today’s speech was an opportunity to offer that reassurance – and while it acknowledged the challenges ahead, it didn’t go far enough to show families there’s a real plan to look after people, get Ontario building, and grow our economy.”
“We need to see real action for strong income protection, a commitment to creating good union jobs, and investing in the services that people rely on during difficult times.
“Unleashing the economic potential of our province means working with Northern communities, in partnership with First Nations, and making sure that key mining and infrastructure projects are done right, not just done fast. The path ahead cannot be a race to the bottom – we have the opportunity to strengthen Ontario, support the workers who build our province, and grow our economy.”
“The Premier and his government can still do the right thing, respond to this moment with focus and urgency, and make sure that we take care of those who are impacted the most, and have a plan to strengthen Ontario with good jobs, reliable services, and a resilient economy.”
Marit Stiles formally reached out to the Premier’s Office to propose a united, Team Ontario approach to tariff relief, focused on protecting jobs and key industries across the province.
She has also spoken directly with business and labour leaders across the province and launched a new Advisory Council on Tariff Response and Economic Security, and a caucus Working Group on Critical Minerals and the Ring of Fire.
