Ontario NDP Leader welcomes Edith Dumont to the role of Lieutenant Governor

QUEEN’S PARK — Official Opposition NDP Leader Marit Stiles issued a statement to welcome Her Honour the Honourable Edith Dumont as the new Lieutenant Governor of Ontario:

“On behalf of the Ontario NDP, I warmly welcome Her Honour Dumont to her new role as Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. Today is an exciting milestone for Franco-Ontarians, who are seeing the very first Franco-Ontarian enter this important role.

Madame Dumont has had a rich career as a special educator, school principal and executive, and as the first woman to head the Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario. I have no doubt she will bring experience and passion to the role.

I’d also like to thank former Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell for her hard work and immense contributions to this province and people. Her years of public service and dedication to Ontario will be remembered for years to come.”
