NDP reveals Ford's Phase 2 for Ontario Place: Filling in the lake

QUEEN’S PARK – Official Opposition NDP Leader Marit Stiles is calling on Ford’s Conservatives to come clean about their plan for Ontario Place as Global News reports on documents obtained by the NDP through Freedom of Information (FOI) that reveals evidence of “Phase II” plans to fill in the lake at east island.

“This is more evidence that Ford’s Conservatives have been keeping the public in the dark about their plans for Ontario Place from the beginning,” said Stiles. “If it wasn’t bad enough that they are using hundreds of millions of public dollars to subsidize a private luxury spa and parking lot, now they’re looking to pave over part of the lake. What else have they been hiding from Ontarians?”

NDP MPP Chris Glover (Spadina – Fort York) added “with this secret plan to fill in the lake, it’s no wonder Ford’s Conservatives exempted the redevelopment of Ontario Place from environmental laws. A taxpayer subsidy, parkland giveaway, and now environmental devastations, there’s more than enough reasons to stop this project.”

The Ontario NDP is putting forward a motion this week at the Standing Committee for Government Agencies to review Ontario Place.
