TORONTO — Toronto NDP MPPs have sent a letter to Premier Doug Ford urging his government to amend the regulation that prevents the city from limiting non-essential construction noise within the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., seven days per week, until October of next year. Toronto's pre-existing noise bylaw limited non-essential construction to between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The emergency order was brought in as a pandemic-related measure, but for the well-being of families and communities, it’s time to go back to normal construction hours, the MPPs argue.
MPPs throughout the city have heard from thousands of residents living near non-essential construction sites, who are bothered by construction noise morning and night because Ford overrode the city's authority to limit construction activity.
