"Today we join all Canadians and the global community to mark V-E day, the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe.
We remember the one million Canadians and Newfoundlanders who served in the Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Navy and Royal Canadian Air Force. We honour the memories of the more than 45,000 women and men who lost their lives, and the tens of thousands who were wounded.
On V-E Day, we recall the devastation, the loss of life and the struggle — and also the humanity, the liberation and the triumph of freedom.
On behalf of the Ontario NDP, I want to express profound and solemn gratitude for the valour and the sacrifice of all Canadians who have served our country in the name of freedom and peace."
