QUEEN’S PARK – Doug Ford has plowed ahead with his attacks on protected green lands and has run roughshod over municipalities like Thunder Bay, said MPP Judith Monteith-Farrell, the NDP’s critic for Natural Resources, Forestry, Conservation, and Parks, who released the following statement on Tuesday after the Ford government passed a law that takes away power from conservation authorities, and gives it to itself.
“What we have seen today is a premier who is bent on destroying the environment.
Despite calls from Ontarians and municipalities like Thunder Bay for Doug Ford to reverse his course on weakening conservation authorities, the Ford government passed a law today to give itself the power to hand out favours to well connected developers to build on previously protected lands.
Doug Ford is putting the environment and Ontarians in danger by stripping conservation authorities of their power to protect sensitive environmental areas. Protecting Ontario's watersheds, and the wildlife they support, also protect people from dangers like flooding, disease and the contamination of our food and water.
Ford’s latest attack on the environment drags us backwards in the fight against climate change.
An Ontario NDP government commits to reversing Ford's changes in 2022.”
