Mamakwa urges Ford’s Conservatives to drop Supreme Court appeal of Robinson Treaties case

TREATY 3 TERRITORY- MPP Sol Mamakwa, Deputy Leader of the Ontario NDP and Critic for Indigenous and Treaty Relations, issued the following statement, once again urging Ford’s Conservatives to drop their appeal of the Robinson Treaties case and settle out of court:

"The July 17th settlement, agreed upon between the 21 Robinson Huron Treaty First Nations and the federal and provincial governments, was an encouraging first step. It began to address the past injustices experienced by the First Nations due to the Crown not honouring its full treaty obligations.

My expectation then, as it is now, is that all appeals by the province before the courts should be dropped, and consultations on a just settlement for all outstanding and future matters relating to the Crown's Treaty obligations should be ongoing.“
