Horwath joins health care unions in call to repeal Ford’s low-wage law

QUEEN’S PARK – Official Opposition Leader Andrea Horwath released the following statement following a discussion about the health care staffing crisis with unions and opposition leaders:
“Ontario health care workers on the frontlines are doing their best to care for patients during this Omicron wave, but our system is under dangerous strain, and is critically understaffed. I want to thank OCHU/CUPE and SEIU health care for the invitation to discuss solutions to this crisis. I’d also like to thank opposition leaders Steven Del Duca and Mike Schreiner for participating in today’s discussion.
Ford must recall the legislature so we can repeal Bill 124, Doug Ford’s low-wage law, and begin to fix the staffing crisis in our health care system. We need to retain, recruit and return health care workers by showing them the respect they deserve — with better wages, paid sick days and mental health supports.
Health care workers are exhausted, burnt out and run off their feet. They deserve better — they deserve respect, and deserve to know that relief is in the way.”
