Dr. Kate Dupuis is running for the NDP in Beaches—East York

TORONTO — Health leader Dr. Kate Dupuis is running for Andrea Horwath’s NDP in Beaches—East York.

Dupuis has been helping Ontario navigate the pandemic, providing easy-to-understand COVID advocacy for families using her @DrKateTO twitter account. Dupuis is both a scientist and clinical neuropsychologist who specializes in the health and well-being of older adults, and those who care for them.

Dupuis is taking the mantle from respected NDP MPP, academic leader and anti-poverty activist Dr. Rima Berns-McGown, who is leaving politics in June.

Quotes

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath

“I join Beaches—East York families in thanking Rima for her good work as an MPP. She’s a fierce advocate for marginalized people, and I have no doubt she’s never going to stop fighting for people, and for services that can be counted on.

I’m so excited to welcome Kate to the candidate team. The kind of health leadership and advocacy that she brings to the table is exactly what Ontario needs. Together, we can fix home care so it helps people live at home as long as possible, and rebuild long-term care so it protects our loved ones’ quality of life instead of taking it away. And with universal mental health care, we can get people the help they need with their OHIP card — not their credit card — so they can live their healthiest, best life. Kate is also a strong voice for great public schools, affordable homes for families and a greener future. I’m overjoyed that she’s joining the NDP team. Together, we can defeat Doug Ford and finally fix what matters to people.”

Kate Dupuis, candidate for Beaches—East York

“I absolutely love living in Beaches—East York, and raising my family there. But I see how, all around me, life’s been getting harder for people. People are waiting too long for the health care they need. The cost of housing is out of control, so parents with older kids worry about them having to leave to find an affordable place. And I worry every day about kids being shortchanged in schools — their well-being and academic growth are on the line. But I have so much hope. I see how my community’s priorities are Andrea’s priorities. Together, I know we’re a team strong enough to defeat Doug Ford, and get to work fixing things that really matter to families like mine.”
