Chandra Pasma chosen as the Ontario NDP candidate in Ottawa West – Nepean

OTTAWA – New Democrats in Ottawa West – Nepean have nominated incumbent MPP Chandra Pasma to be their candidate in the next provincial election, kicking off this nomination cycle for Ontario NDPleader Marit Stiles and her team.

“I am grateful for the trust that the Ottawa West – Nepean community has continued to put in me,” said Pasma. “Ottawa residents deserve a good life – with reliable public health care, affordable homes, and good jobs. Together, we built a strong, community-driven campaign and defeated Doug Ford’s Conservatives here last time. Now, it’s time to keep that momentum going so we can make sure people get a government that works for them.”

BACKGROUND

• Chandra Pasma has been the MPP for Ottawa West – Nepean since June 2022 and serves as the Official Opposition critic for education.
• Pasma was the only candidate from any party to defeat a sitting government MPP in the last election, defeating PC candidate Jeremy Roberts by 1,086 votes.
• As an MPP, Pasma has introduced bills to improve air quality in schools; to prevent the misuse of non-disclosure agreements; to make energy bills more affordable and to require apartment buildings to have emergency power generators, in the aftermath of the 2022 Ottawa wind storm that left hundreds of thousands without power.
• The Ontario NDP holds open nominations, with candidates chosen by NDP members who live in the community.
• The next scheduled Ontario NDP nomination meeting is in London North Centre on August 11th.
