QUEEN’S PARK — Just before the Doug Ford government changed the route of the Bradford Bypass, Associate Minister for Transportation Stan Cho hosted Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney at the Silver Lakes Golf and Country Club. The course is owned by Cho’s father, John Cho, and re-routing the bypass saved his investment.
The Ministry of Transportation revealed a proposal in April 2021 for the Bradford Bypass to be re-routed. Instead of going through the Silver Lakes Country Club, the Doug Ford government would re-route it through people’s homes, just south of the golf course, instead.
The Silver Lakes social media accounts reveal Cho and Mulroney spent the day at Silver Lakes just before March 23. Mulroney returned on May 22.
“This reeks of a special deal for a buddy,” said NDP Finance critic Catherine Fife. “Stan Cho hosted the minister responsible for this decision at his dad’s golf course. And, boom, the golf course is spared. It looks sketchy. It looks like, once again, Doug Ford is willing to do anything for a pal, no matter what it costs the rest of us.”
The controversial bypass will also make at least 3,100 acres of real estate owned by big Ford donors much more valuable.
