Director of Fundraising and Donor Development – Full-Time Permanent

The Ontario New Democratic Party (ONDP) seeks an experienced Director of Fundraising and Donor Development. Under the supervision of the Provincial Director, the Director of Fundraising and Donor Development is responsible for developing, overseeing, and expanding the Party’s fundraising and development activities, including donor relations, special events, major donor campaigns, telemarketing, direct mail, prospecting, and receipting.

The Director will ensure the Party is well-resourced to carry out its day-to-day activities and prepare for a winning election campaign. Innovative strategies will be required to ramp up revenues ahead of expected changes to political party financing. Reporting to the Provincial Director, the Director will work in tandem with the Digital team, responsible for online fundraising and engagement, and the Communications team to align messaging with the Party’s work.

The ONDP is the Official Opposition in the provincial parliament of Ontario. The Party’s central office, located in Toronto, provides support and leadership for 124 volunteer riding associations across Ontario, plans and executes general election campaigns, and supports the governance of the Party in accordance with its Constitution and provincial legislation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Developing and executing a fundraising strategy in consultation with relevant committees and working groups for the Party and election campaigns.
• Cultivating a culture of both giving and soliciting throughout the organization.
• Overseeing all aspects of offline fundraising activities.
• Ensuring compliance with all provincial laws and regulations related to political fundraising.
• Working alongside the Digital Team to renew and increase recurring monthly online and offline donations.
• Stewarding relations with major donors.
• Recruiting and overseeing phone bank staff for a minimum of three campaigns per year or as needed for campaigns such as by-elections.
• Planning and executing direct-mail campaigns to maintain and increase revenues.
• Planning and executing large-and-small-scale fundraising events as required, and incorporating fundraising activities into regular events such as Provincial Council meetings and Conventions.
• Overseeing and supporting riding-level (i.e., electoral districts) fundraising as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Significant fundraising and development experience in a leadership role.
• Demonstrated ability to set and meet aggressive fundraising targets for a large organization.
• Excellent written, oral, communication, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with a diverse, multidisciplinary team and with volunteers.
• Post-secondary education or comparable experience in the fundraising and development field.
• Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising sector best practices.
• Project management experience.
• Experience training and managing staff, preferably in a unionized workplace.
• Flexible, a self-starter with a lot of initiative; able to multitask while also being highly detail-oriented.
• Experience and networks with the NDP, labour, or other progressive organizations, either on staff or as a volunteer, is an asset.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

This position is compensated as per Appendix IV of the ONDP Collective Agreement. Starting salary is $86,042.28 (Class 6) per annum. The ONDP has an office at 2069 Lakeshore Blvd West, Etobicoke, ON M8V 3Z4.

In recognition of the time and labor involved in preparing for and attending an interview, the ONDP will financially compensate interviewees at a fixed rate of $75 per interview. In the event that a candidate is asked to prepare a presentation or assignment for an interview, the ONDP will financially compensate the candidate for that work at a rate equal to the hourly rate for the position, based on the number of hours the hiring committee believes the task should take.
